Against Drugs

Where were you
                                                                                when I was all alone
                                                crying
Did you think
                                                about
                                                                                me
                                                                                the consequences
                                                                                yourself
Why didn’t you
                                                                                tell
                                                ANYONE
Do you notice
                                                                                how they stare
                                                at you
Everyone notices
                                                                                how you
                                                smell
                                                talk
                                                look
What were you
                                                                                thinking
                                                that night
Why did you call
                    the house
            in that state
                                                   ?
It scares
                                                Us all

                 I miss you

My Bed

I have two beds in my room. I sleep in one and the other is just sitting there, lonely. One day I thought to myself that it would be a great idea to rut these two twin beds together and make one fantastic king size bed. I told my parents about this brilliant idea and they said maybe, which is parent speak for no. Thankfully, I didn't know this at the time, so I kept on persisting and finally they said yes. After two years of waiting yesterday I got my new comforter. I jumped onto the smooth surface and bounced as my belly fell onto the mattress covered by the beautiful tree pattern.  I nuzzled my nose into the soft fabric that smelled like a far off place. The bed wrinkled as I lied there, blissfully grateful to my parents.

The Holiday Season

December is one of my favorite months in the year. It has everything, good food, beautiful snow, decorations, and songs. My birthday is also in  December. December is usually the first month to have snow. Snow is marvelous. It glides down to the ground and if there is enough, eventually a layer of snow collects, just big enough to make snowballs.  This delicate snow also can form on trees. Trees were dreary because they had lost all of their leaves, but when the soft white blanket of snow covers all the plants, it is transformed into a wonderland. December is the holiday season. It has Hanukkah and Christmas. In my neighborhood, there are extravagant lights on most of the houses. I find these lights entertaining and awesome. December is the most wonderful time of the year

Apple Cinnamon Muffins

I never understood why some people couldn't bake anything even with  a recipe until the day I tried making cinnamon muffins. A friend and I decided to bake and I really wanted cinnamon muffins so we took a recipe from online and started to cut the apples. I should have known that this wasn't going to work from the very start. We didn't have all the ingredients for the recipe so we had to call her house and we didn't have all the utensils needed to prepare those items. it wasn't working for us from the beginning. On the website it said that these were the amounts for a dozen muffins so we doubled everything. We put the chopped up apples into the mixer and realized that there was more apple than batter. Besides all of these hurdles we still tried to put the batter in the muffin cups, but there was too much so we filled it to the top. This was an AWFUL idea. We left the kitchen for a little bit to listen to some music, but when we came back, the oven was smoking and it smelled awful. We quickly took the muffins out and discovered what was burning. Some of the batter had overflowed and started to burn on the bottom and there was a layer of burnt muffin on the pan. Fortunately, the muffins still tasted pretty good. Unfortunately, the oven was ruined.

A Bumpy Ride

This Thanksgiving my family and I went to sunny California to spend time with our cousins and uncles and aunts. This is amazing because I live in the Midwest which is cold and rainy this time of the year. We left for the airport in our car and realized too late that  that was not a good idea. Traffic was horrible. It was bumper to bumper traffic as far as the eye could see. It was taking us 15 minutes to get onto the freeway itself so my sister decided she wanted to cut across the no-man's land between the entrance ramp and the freeway. we assimilated into the stationary traffic and prayed that we could get to the airport on time. The car started to bump around as we slowly made our way to our destination. A woman in the car next to us tried to get our attention and point at our wheel. My dad opened the door to find that there was a flat tire. We had to pull over and change the tire in the freezing cold. The only solace I found was that we still made our flight.

Books You Can Remember

Writing is one of the most diverse things in the world. Not only are there different alphabets for different cultures, but there are also different sentence structures, words and punctuation that can fit together or collapse under its own weight. People can write because they love it or because it is mandatory, but the rules are never the same. Breaking the rules is either revolutionary or taboo, but once in a while there comes a quote that doesn't need rules. These quotes build people up from dark places and can beautifully connect to anybody in any situation. Books strive to entice readers with fancy covers and ridiculous plot lines, but the most meaningful quotes and style can come from simple books about loss, happiness or a little fish that swam too far from home and who's father chases him around the world. These are the quotes that should always be kept close, whether they be depressingly deep or simply funny. Quotes connect worlds, time and, most importantly, people. All you need to do is start noticing them.
